CHANGING THE FACE OF RETAIL / WHOLE FOODS MARKET
Our Avalon (Atlanta) store is the setting for a whole new way of presenting Whole Foods Market's core values and differentiators to our customers. A series of UX devices – both digital and analog – were created to engage and enchant customers through playful and informative experiences. Working closely with the digital storytelling firm Second Story, we developed the devices to work holistically as a customer moves through the store. The result is a series of user experiences that are tactile, delightful, and accessible; a memorable way to educate, raise awareness, and ultimately empower our customers to make informed purchasing decisions.

Align your whole body! Our Whole Body interactive mirror mimics (or "reflects") physical movement. When engaged, the mirror prompts users to strike simple poses and, once achieved, rewards with an aural explosion of congratulations and a special
deal on a corresponding featured product.

Become a connoisseur! Have you ever wondered: What is terroir? When should you decant a wine? Which wines pair best with curry? Everything from tasting notes, pairings, recommendations from our expert sommeliers, to what we're currently into is a touch away on this series of touch screens in our Wine department. Easily accessible for a deep dive or a quick tip, this dynamic library is curated specifically for the Avalon store. There's even a dedicated Instagram feed for the community to share their own experiences and suggestions to a dedicated Avalon hashtag.
Farm meet table! Taking up an entire wall in our cafe, this interactive display gives customers a direct portal to our local suppliers; it's the next best thing to being on the farm! Touch screens gives access to the detailed and compelling local
stories, photos, videos, info graphics – all at your fingertips. The middle display shows the Instagram feed of a select partner, swapped out bi-weekly. There's nothing more transparent than feeds direct from the farm. This experience embodies our mission of enabling customers to know where their food comes from.

Good, better, best. In our Produce department is an analog interactive display focusing on the evolution of good, better, best farm practices for sustainable produce production techniques. It features a 3D farm scene that customers are able to engage through a series of handles. Each handle represents a key sustainability attribute and, when pulled, activates an evocative mechanical vignette of the attribute in action. Learn about things like GMO transparency, water conservation, and protecting pollinators – and have fun doing so!
